Yes, as I said! Talk trendy. It’s not enough to dress trendy anymore, now you should talk trendy or urban, and if your "granny" understands a word of what you say this means you’re NOT on the COOL track.
Each year we notice new words entering our daily vocabulary. Some of them are completely new, or used in a new way, others are abbreviations that took completely over the complete word, and some are the mixing of two words together.
Today the word friend is used as a verb, for example, with Facebook you can “ Unfriend” a friend. A new word/verb that should be included in dictionaries is “ Tweet” - as in: to tweet, retweet, and all the other derivatives of tweet, my favorite is tweetterhea :P. Then of course the classic Google verb; to google, googling, etc... And lately, the most abused one is “ Buzz”.
Another trend in our lingo is cutting words; a very famous example is the word “application” that no one can completely pronounce anymore; we just decided to reduce it to “App” (thank you Apple). Another one, is the word “Techy” for technologically advanced or savvy. I don’t want to bore you with all the other common ones as SMS, MMS, BB for blackberry or BBM for blackberry messenger. Trust me the list of those this “abb.” could go for miles!
A new phenomenon in our society is the increasing level of “illiteracy”! Most of us should return to primary school to learn how to write properly; we just became incapable of writing full words. A typical example would be: How r u 2day? Btw, yest. Pat. Called to c if ur Ok! (fyi those are not typos :p)
But the “Supa” fun words the ones that we mix; the latest was “Jeggings” that stands for leggings that are jeans like! Oh, and another cool one is “Staycation”, this word was very “in” last summer with the crisis as many people had to spend their vacations home to save money!
Wowww! If we go on with the same level of advancement with our vocabulary in few years people will be only using Urban dictionaries and wordspy.com, the Oxford dictionary will just become obsolete! Trust me, if Shakespeare was alive in our era, he would have committed suicide :P
And you, what do you think?
