The day I had the idea to write this post was the same day the French decided to go on strike AGAIN and I was supposed to fly from Madrid to London, unfortunately passing by the French air. That day I ended up being delayed for six or seven hours, so you can imagine the state of frustration of most of the passengers on that flight!
While endlessly waiting for this flight to finally board, I have discovered that we have hyperactive minds, or at least I do! As soon as the first delay was announced I went and bought all the trashy magazines that you can imagine, on my way to the news kiosk I made a stop on the cosmetics section for a quick look, than the luxury brands section, then of course the accessories section where I tried more that 20 pairs of sunglasses. The next stop was in the cafeteria for breakfast and coffee. All this and I still had around 2 extra hours to wait. So I started answering my e-mails, checking Facebook, BBMing some friends, and still I managed to feel bored! Then the second delay was announced! An extra 3 hours and 30 minutes! The only thing I could think about was: what will I do now? As if it´s a must to be busy doing something!
On a normal day, I would have prayed for some free time, just a minute without having something to do, some time to just stare at the wall! And now that I have it, I just can´t bear it! I was just not able to shut-up the voices in my head! I couldn´t be in silence or in peace with myself. Now I know from where the lyrics of the Drumming Song of Florence + the Machine come from, the song goes: ¨There´s a drumming noise inside my head¨, and that´s what I was hearing; drumming noiseS and voiceS inside MY head, they were shouting WORK, E-MAIL, HOME, YES, NO, etc…
The main philosophy behind yoga is that the mind, body, and spirit are all one and you cannot achieve harmony/ peace if one of them is not in balance! Our lifestyle is so hectic, so quick, that it automatically turns our minds into hyperactive machines that are just unstoppable - this can makes us restless and create a state of unbalance in our life! No wonder many successful people end up having depressions or going crazy, their minds just become very noisy and loud!
The solution? Learning to be in peace with yourself, how to be quiet.
How? Through meditating. I am sure meditating would not be easy, it needs a lot of practice and patience, however it´s not enough to have a healthy and toned body, exercise for the mind and spirit is crucial as well.
So let´s be trendy and learn how to be in silence and peace with ourselves, let´s learn how to soothe those hyperactive minds!
And you, what do you think?
